Final Project Contract:
Name: Victoria
Ballantine
Project Premise:
Last semester in my Capstone Seminar class for
Psychology, we briefly discussed the depiction of women within comics. Because
women are portrayed in such unrealistic ways, it had inspired me to continue to
analyze how female characters are depicted, their relationships with the male
characters, and their overall roles within the graphic narratives. For my final
project, I propose to read 3 graphic narratives featuring women characters, that
are either main characters or supporting characters. I will also examine how
women are depicted in popular movies, such as Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice and The Incredibles.

Project
Outcome/Reporting:
Using the texts and films I listed, I will compose 5
blog entries (of at least 2-3 typed pages) where I will consider the following:
Blog #1: The visual representations
of women within these texts and films (comparisons and differences, if any)
Blog #2: Female characters’ roles
within the texts/films compared with gender-typed roles for women in society
Blog #3: The female characters’
relationships with the male characters within the texts and films (comparisons
and differences, if any)
Blog #4: Shared experiences across
female characters and the texts and films (comparisons)
Blog #5: Reading a peer-reviewed
journal article, “The Accidental Supermom: Superheroines and Maternal
Performativity,” by Laura Mattoon D’amore and comparing it’s analysis with my
analysis about the text/films stated above
